Company History
Voltas was established on 6th September 1954 as a collaboration between Tata Sons and Volkart Brothers. The company initially operated in agricultural products and import-export sector, prior to venturing into refrigerator and air conditioning manufacturing. Voltas undertook large-scale electro-mechanical projects like Tungabhadra dam project in the 1960s.
Voltas became a major brand of room ACs and commercial refrigeration in the 1970s. It also expanded to textile machinery and material handling equipment. The company ventured into HVAC, plumbing, and electrical projects in the 1980s. Voltas became a leading AC brand in India in the year 1994.
Voltas diversified into mining and construction equipment in the late 1990s.
