Orpat was established in the year 1971 as Ajanta Transistor Clock Manufacturing Company at Morbi in Gujarat. The company’s very first products were mechanical wall clocks, sold under the brand name Ajanta, that were known for their aesthetics and durability. In the 1980s, Orpat diversified its product portfolio to include alarm clocks and timepieces. During this period, the company also commenced manufacturing calculators, thereby becoming one of the first manufacturers of calculators in India.
Orpat became the first company in the early 1990s to manufacture calculator clocks, a combination of wall clock and calculator.
